Noblesse's Biggest Mysteries
An 820-year sleep, a sword with a secret message inside it, and a butler whose weapon whispers back. Noblesse answered almost nothing — here are the mysteries still keeping us up at night.

Theory: canon, interpretation and speculation are labelled separately below.
Noblesse does something cruel: it gives you the coolest, calmest hero in anime, surrounds him with secrets, and then answers almost none of them. The anime is only 13 episodes cut from a huge webtoon, so some gaps are the anime's fault. But even comic readers finished the story with questions. Here are mine.
*Spoiler warning: this one talks about the full anime and pieces of the webtoon — Muzaka, the old Lord, and the Dark Spear.*
Why did Raizel really sleep for 820 years?
The short version we get: Rai was hurt, badly, and slept to heal. The long version hides in pieces — a fight with his old friend Muzaka, the werewolf lord, who lost his mind with grief after his daughter Ashleen died. Rai stopped him and paid for it with his own body. But who pushed Muzaka to that point? Who gained from the two strongest beings breaking each other? The anime barely touches this, and even in the comic, the full chain of hands behind that tragedy takes a very long time to come out.
What did the previous Lord really want?
The old Lord chose eternal sleep and left his soul weapon, Ragnarok, behind — with a message hidden inside it, meant for Rai. He stepped away from a world he could have ruled forever, and his daughter Raskreia grew up resenting Rai without ever knowing the whole truth. Why did he leave when he did? What did he see coming? The message in the sword answers a piece of it. The rest is between him and the grave.
What IS the Noblesse, exactly?
Rai is not the Lord. He does not rule Lukedonia. He is something older and stranger — the shield of the nobles, a title carried by one being, with a power that costs him his own life force every time he uses it. Where did this role come from? Was there a Noblesse before him? Will there be one after? The whole world is built around this title, and its birth is never fully explained.
What is the Dark Spear doing to Frankenstein?
Frankenstein is a human who made himself into a monster so he could stand beside his master. His power comes from the Dark Spear, a weapon that whispers to him and slowly tries to eat his mind. Where did it come from? Whose souls are screaming inside it? Every time Franky smiles in a fight, the spear smiles back — and we still do not know the full price he will pay.
Who put Rai in that coffin — and who opened it?
The story starts with a coffin in an empty building in South Korea. Eight centuries of sleep end because modified humans cross paths with the wrong box — the Awakening ONA shows the waking. But how did the true Noblesse end up there, in a place tied to the very people hunting his kind? Somebody moved him. Somebody kept him. The story never gives us that somebody's face.
Canon
Stated plainly in the anime and webtoon: Rai slept for 820 years after being gravely wounded in the era when he fought Muzaka. The previous Lord entered eternal sleep by choice and left Ragnarok with a hidden message for Rai. Frankenstein's Dark Spear is tied to the souls of dead humans and tries to consume him. Rai's coffin was found in a building in South Korea connected to the Union's people, and the Union spent years hunting for what was inside it.
Interpretation
Our reading: Rai's sleep was not just healing — a being that powerful does not simply nap for 820 years unless the wound is tied to his very life force, which fits how using his power shortens his life. The previous Lord's exit reads like a man clearing the board for a new age he knew he could not lead himself. And Frankenstein's bargain with the spear looks like the mirror of Rai's own bargain: both of them pay with themselves to protect the people they love.
Speculation
Fan territory, unconfirmed: that the Noblesse is not a bloodline but a role the world creates when balance breaks; that the Union's founders knew exactly whose coffin they were keeping, saving him as a weapon or a prize; and that the previous Lord foresaw Rai's waking age — our age — and timed his own exit around it. The comic ended without blessing any of these. We checked. We are still a little mad about it.
